InBetween - Integrated Behaviour for the urban regeneration

Topics

  1. Disadvantaged neighbourhoods
  2. Social innovation
  3. Urban Renewal

Main policy issue to be addressed in relation to the selected topics

The Intermediate Urban Areas - located between the historic centre and the marginal areas - represent an opportunity for the cities of tomorrow, being places in which to identify and experiment integrated urban management methods and practices useful for identifying local communities’ needs, and reconnecting them to the shape of the place where they live, work, spend time and finally extend these benefits to the whole city. InBetween-Integrated Behaviour for the urban regeneration intends to work on these urban environments, providing involved cities with a series of innovative tools (practical actions, strategies, ways) led by the local authorities and stakeholders, in order to give answers on two work scales: 1. on local level, on the neighbourhoods proposed as study areas; 2. whole city, to use this experience as a model to adapt to other urban areas. This will be done considering Intermediate Urban Areas as a real urban laboratory in which to stimulate the birth of innovative solutions in the field of improvement of social cohesion, re-development of urban mixite, development of new urban welfare practices, and identification of appropriate solutions to support the reduction of soil consumption (reuse of buildings and spaces); in practice a new urban paradigm, useful for linking the urban fabric, functions (needs or intangibles) and citizenship as a new social entrepreneurship.
