Is your city solving problems together with citizens? Then submit your application for the Engaged Cities Award by 5 January 2018!

Founded in 2009 by New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Cities of Service is a US-based non for profit organisation that helps mayors build stronger cities by changing the way local government and citizens work together. The Engaged Cities Award will celebrate the best and most creative strategies – ultimately enabling peer cities from around the world to learn from, adopt, and improve upon these strategies back home.

How to apply?

  • Cities of Service welcomes applications from cities only. Eligible cities must have 30,000 or more residents and be located in the Americas or Europe.
  • Submitted strategies must show evidence of significantly decreasing (or completely solving) a specific public problem by tapping citizens’ expertise and talent.
  • Strategies must be city-led, defined as led and/or championed by the mayor or chief executive or appointed senior staff person in City Hall or related agency, and target public problems that are a priority for the city.
  • Applications must be submitted by a representative of the city under the direction and approval of an authorized executive or body (e.g. mayor, deputy mayor, chief executive, city manager, or equivalent).

Cities of Service will select three Engaged Cities Award Winners. The grand prize Winner will be awarded $100,000 and two additional cities will each receive $50,000. Engaged Cities Award Winners will receive media coverage and recognition leading up to, during, and after the Engaged Cities Summit. Cities of Service may publicize the work of Engaged Cities Award applicants to showcase their efforts and spur activity among cities looking to accomplish similar change in their own city.

Deadline for applications is 5 January 2018. In February 2018, 10 cities selected as finalists will be announced and they begin work on round two of application process. In May 2018, Engaged Cities Award Winners will be announced at the Cities of Service Engaged Cities Gala and Summit.
