Young people are at the core of MY GENERATION and the scope is to understand the challenges they face, together with their aspirations.
MY GENERATION is focusing on identifying three sets of good practices related to: outreach for deprived categories of youth, education - employment transition and coordination among actors when promoting the youth cause in urban contexts.
The first question addressed is how to transform passivity, alienation and negative activity of the young into positive aspirations and careers. The second question is how to make active transitions from education to work. Finally, how to coordinate youth related initiatives and activity structures within cities.
Good practice is practice that is able to learn from mistakes, and generate better practice. MY GENERATION experiments with a whole range of methods: outreach, dialogue, tailoring, ambassadors, events, champions, examples, multi-media, real life stories, and more.
Each partner city in MY GENERATION is either interested primarily in the Outreach-theme or the Education-Employment –theme and exchanging and developing good practice in these. This interest is not exclusive, however. The cities are free to work on all themes, and engage in learning in the MY GENERATION network as they wish, as long as they take care of the delivery of their own project, and their priorities.
What motivates you to be part of the URBACT adventure ?
The city of Rotterdam adopts an open attitude and is keen to learn from and share with others. We not only do this at the national level, but we have been taking part in European projects, including Interreg, Framework Programme, Intelligent Energy for Europe and URBACT 1 SecurCity for ten years now. We are more than pleased to contribute all of this experience to URBACT II.
