My dream Fátima, a vision of urban renewal through CSR and a joint work in coordination

On Tuesday 12 July, the integrated action plan of Molina de Segura has been presented by Eliseo García, the Mayor, to the media to publicly endorse the plan designed with the cooperation of all the parties. The closing day was perfect to share the main result achieved for the future: the Integrated Action Plan (IAP) within Cities4SCR “My Dream Fátima” and a CSR platform, that will support a vision of integrated urban development from a neighbourhood that will help the recovery and enhancement of an emblematic area of the city.

In the afternoon, the focus was placed on the next steps towards the implementation of the IAP gathering the representatives of the Neighbours, the Mayor, the ULG Coordinator, Company representatives and technical staff of the Municipality among others.  This took place at the Secondary School Ntra. de Fátima where all started. It was a moment to share with those who have participated from the project beginning and collaborated in the definition of the Plan engaging all the parties in its future implementation.

The IAP includes CSR training and awareness-raising and an innovative platform for public-private collaboration in which the needs of the neighbourhood are combined with the CSR of local companies, managed through the Business Office at Molina de Segura. The plan contains 10 key actions to be implemented until 2025, some of which are already started and the new developments are in the current plan.

The proposals are the creation of a connective green itinerary that will support the integration, the wellbeing and the beautification, a citizen health school that will improve physical and mental health, a bio-healthy park that will support intergenerational interaction. Along with a wave of physical restorations in buildings that will contribute towards the improved living conditions and a social centre that will boost the common identity forged and the associative fabric, leading urban acupuncture interventions for green squares and pedestrianization and the citizen appropriation of unused urban spaces that will help the provision of new services. Further to that, job activation workshops that will enhance the connection between local companies and citizens, a Sporting Programme that will support the strengthening of social relations and inspirational workshops that will help in the re-skilling adapting new generations to local company needs.

According to the mayor, Eliseo García Cantó, "based on the existing resources in the neighbourhood and the commitment of the people who represent the different sectors (citizens, associations, educational institutions and socio-economic actors), the City Council will promote new agreements to face the urban challenges and achieve important advances in the economic, social and environmental fields".

He also stressed that "the City Council is to develop a municipal CSR plan, so that the implementation and results of this plan in the Barrio de Fátima will be key to extending the experience to the rest of the municipality, with public-private collaboration at a larger scale”.

The tool for this interaction will be the platform developed that matches citizen needs with the potential cooperation of companies, the public local authority and the Corporate Social Responsibility strategy that will take on board the pioneering activity in Fátima to escalate future interventions replicating in other city areas.

During both sessions all the parties involved stated their commitment towards the jointly development of the plan and the maintenance of regular meetings to inform about the progress and to advance in the definition of the proposals to be implemented. Speakers at the events, highlighted the importance of the participation even maintained during the COVID-19 restrictions and the agreement in priority actions built up with a bottom-up approach.

The plan will be delivered over the next 3 years with an estimated budget of 3.5 million euros by the Municipality of Molina de Segura, in collaboration with the citizens and the companies.
