For a more balanced development of the Baltic Sea Region

The European Commission has just adopted a text outlining the European Union's Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region.

" Since the 2004 enlargement, the Region has been faced with numerous challenges, notably in environmental matters: the future of the Baltic Sea is under threat. An Action Plan identifies 80 key projects which will be implemented in the eight Member States bordering the Sea. This step is unprecedented in Europe, since for the first time ever, a comprehensive strategy involving several Community policies is targeting what is referred to as a "macro-region". The European Parliament and Member States are expected to give the green light to the Strategy before the end of 2009. This will be one of the priorities of the Swedish Presidency of the European Union. Read more :
