Molina de Segura is the 4th largest municipality in Region of Murcia, with around 70,000 inhabitants and is one of the most industrialized cities in Spanish Southeast, being located in the metropolitan area of Murcia City with a unique strategic communication location. Molina de Segura is a municipality that combines tradition and progress, history and future, a place where the countryside, innovation and technology coexist.

The town of Molina de Segura is located in Europe, in the east of the Iberian Peninsula, belonging to the kingdom of Spain, and part of the Region of Murcia. Molina de Segura is located 10 km from the capital, also called Murcia. Being located in the agglomeration of the metropolitan area of Murcia, Molina de Segura has the highest economic income in the region.

Dozens of leading national companies in different fields have offices in the city, and the city council is proud of its policies targeting SMEs and large companies with the creation of a specific office to deal with the industrial sector. Since 2015, The City Council has a participatory budget and today, 5% of the municipal budget is for citizen participation, what shows the intention of the city council to count on the participation of all the actors of the municipality.

Molina has a strong investment in industry and innovation, being the largest industrial estate in the region with 6 million square meters. Molina signed the letter of Aalborg (Local Agenda 21) for enabling sustainable urban development since 1994. The Municipality also bets on culture, being a reference in, culture and arts with the International Theatre Festival that celebrates its 50th edition in 2019.

Molina de Segura has 9 industrial parks and the municipality has a well organised relationship with the companies. There is an Economic and Social Council set up in the 90s´ that was a pioneer in the region with all sectors represented: companies, consumers, municipality, and merchants´ association. In 2019, Molina de Segura joined the national network of industrial estates that are committed to sustainability. Molina has also participated last year in the creation of the Open Chair for Innovation and Participation, together with the University of Murcia and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, in order to establish a space dedicated entirely to the promotion of initiatives for transparency, innovation, participation and reindustrialization.
