Métropole Rouen Normandie

Métropole Rouen Normandie is located in north western France. The area covering 663m² is bordered by the Seine river, half way between Paris and the sea. The metropole is composed of 71 municipalities, sharing main responsibilities of public action from planning development to management of citizen services. 500 000 inhabitants live in the area, including 44 000 students. But Métropole Rouen Normandie, as a regional administrative and economic capital in Normandie, spreads its influence on a larger area comprising 800 000 inhabitants and 330 000 employments.

Economy

Metropole Rouen Normandie is a major industrial and tertiary place. The Metropole is espacially responsible for 70 activity areas.

The port of Rouen plays a main role, with about 20 000 jobs linked to its activities and 2.5 billions euros of added value.

New economic sectors are supported : health, numeric, ecotechnology ingeniery…

With the project « Rouen Normandy autonomous lab », Metropole Rouen Normandie is involved in a great challenge for modern mobility. Attached to local companies such as Renault, it is the pionner for creating and testing new mobility models.

Culture and patrimony

Métropole Rouen Normandie is both urban and rural. Urbanisation, forests and agriculture cover each one third of the territory.

Rouen is a very pretty city with a medieval core and a famous gothic cathedral. In the XIXth century, the territory was an inspiration for impressionnist famous paintors, espacially Monet.

The city center has been renovated for 3 years and is a very pleasant place to visit with a lot of museums of painting and history.

High environnemental responsability

Committed with its Energy Air and Climate Plan to become a territory consumming 100% green energy by 2050, Metropole Rouen Normandie has launched since 2017 a unique project for envrionment responsability called « local COP21 ».

With World Wild Found France and ADEME (national agency for energy), Metropole Rouen Normandie has concluded an agreement for climate with more than 1 000 citizens, companies and administrations engaged to act in favour of ecological transition.

Metropole is also acting to adapt the city to climate change. It develops for example policies in favour of biodiversity, tree plantation and reintroducing nature in the city.
