Loures 2nd ULG Meeting

The second meeting of the URBACT Local Group (ULG) of the City of Loures took place on the 21^st of March 2019. The City Councilor of the Planning and Urban Management Department, Mr. Tiago Matias, welcome the ULG members at the “Casa da Cultura” in the Quinta do Mocho. This work group had already met last February in occasion of the first ULG meeting, which marked the beginning of a series of encounters foreseen throughout the year 2019.

As the Councilor highlighted during his speech, urban gardens are of vital importance in the Municipality of Loures due to the rural vocation of a vast area within its territory.

The good practice of Rome will be transferred to three pilot areas, on which community gardens will be developed in line with the RU:RBAN philosophy: Quinta do Conventinho (Santo António dos Cavaleiros), Bairro da Petrogal (Bobadela), and Quinta do Mocho (Sacavém). The ULG members visited all three areas. Following their field visit, they discussed the possible strategies to promote the creation of associations in order to adopt Rome’s Regulation of Urban Gardens and adapt them to the reality of Loures.

The Councilor closed the meeting by thanking all the participants for being the promoters of the project’s success.
