Leipzig Conference "Implementing the Leipzig Charter - a Cities´Perspective"

The two-day conference focused on the debate with intelligent, sustainable and inclusive growth in the cities. The most important aspect is the question of the interplay of the different levels (including European, regional) as well as between theory and practice in urban development of cities perspective.

Four years after the adoption of the Leipzig Charter, the conference served to present and discuss findings that have collected in 8 European cities in the projects LC-Facil and koopstadt (Bremen, Bytom, Gothenburg, Kirklees, Leipzig, Nuremberg, Rennes and Vitoria-Gasteiz) with the implementation of an integrated urban development. A central component is the experience with other European cities. The conference provided the opportunity to defend the higher levels (EU, federal and local governments) to show how instruments should be developed in the future.

This is particularly important now, because currently determines the guidlines for the new funding at EU-level. Speakers of the LC-Conference were in addition to Michael Ralph (DG Regio), Oda Scheibelhuber (Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development), Prof. Michael Parkinson (Director of the European Institute for Urban Affairs) and Paul Bevan (Secretary General of Eurocities) also the Lord Mayor of Leipzig Burkhard Jung and the Mayor for Urban Development and Construction Martin zur Nedden.
