Latest Panorama magazine now on line - the new EU strategy for the Danube region
Edited on
24 June 2019The latest edition of the European Commission's Panorama magazine on regional policy is out now! Entitled 'The EU Strategy for the Danube region a united response to common challenges', this issue focuses on a new integrated strategy for the Danube area, a very rich ecosystem, but very fragile at the same time.
The Danube, Europe's second longest river at around 2 850 km, links the Black Forest to the Black Sea and runs through ten countries, with four more in its basin. Hydro-electric power stations, a Pan-European transport corridor and home to some of Europe's rarest species – the pressures placed on the river are often conflicting and the Region's political changes have had their impact on how challenges are met.
The EU Strategy for the Danube Region follows in the footsteps of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region and builds on its good practices. None the less, the project concentrates on the unique features of the river and takes into consideration the characteristics of the countries crossed by the Danube. Moreover, the project focuses on closer synergies between authorities at all levels to maximize the impact of actions and funding, as no new EU funds, special structures or legislation will be created to sustain this strategy.
Thus, this 37th edition contains:
- A presentation of the Danube Strategy
- Key lessons from the Baltic Sea Region Strategy
- Examples of project already existing in the area
Panorama also contains a presentation of RegioNetwork 2020, an on-line community for the professionals of regional development.
