The Working Group Hopus Housing Praxis for Urban Sustainability will hold its final conference in Rome on April 22nd and 23rd, 2010. The conference will be the occasion to summarize the group’s two-year activity, and present the final output: the book “Housing for Europe: Strategies for Quality in Urban Space, Excellence in Design, Performance in Building”.
The conference will take place in the Faculty of Architecture, and it will be organized with a two-day agenda. On April 22nd, starting at 15:00, the local support group will meet with authorities and decision makers to discuss the perspectives and potentials for the development of quality urban space and housing in Rome and at the regional level. Speakers will include representatives from CECODHAS Italy, builders’ associations, environmental groups and various research institutes active in the field of social housing.
April 23rd, from 9:30 to 18:00, will be the closing of the transnational project, with all project partners presenting their elaborations, their local support group’s activities and their conclusions. National and international experts will be invited to participate in the conference, as well as authorities and academics. A special session will be dedicated to the interaction of the working group with other Urbact II projects sharing a number of common issues.
On Saturday, April 24th, a study tour will be organized in new developments in the Eastern neighborhoods of Rome, to observe the ongoing sprawling growth of the city, as well as some cases of integrated urban development confirming the importance of the issues set forth in the working group’s output.
