Co-organised by the Greek Ministry for Development and Competitiveness and URBACT on the 11th of June in Thessaloniki (EL), the seminar will look into the possible instruments for cities in 2014-2020 in the field of sustainable integrated urban development.

The seminar will bring together Greek cities and Managing Authorities of Operational Programmes that will dwell into the new instruments proposed by the EU for the implementation of Cohesion Policy for 2014-2020. Benefiting from the presence of DG Regio representatives and URBACT experts, participants will learn about the approaches that stay behind these tools, specifically the integrated and the participatory approaches.
The seminars registers in the bigger field of action of the Greek Presidency related to Growth & Jobs & Cohesion. In a period when unemployment has reached unacceptably high rates in several EU member-states, affecting especially the youth, and when recession is a constant threat to European economies, growth becomes a matter of overriding importance. Growth benefits the economy and promotes social cohesion and political stability in the Union.
Within this framework, the cities are at the heart of the debate, due to their growth potential and at the same time their role as innovation hubs. The seminar will look into these elements from an integrated and participatory point of view.
