Margaret Rönngren, Deputy Mayor of Umeå Municipality, welcomes the Freight TAILS cities

Freight TAILS partners were welcomed to the 4th Transnational Meeting of the URBACT III Freight TAILS Action Planning Network by the Deputy Mayor of Umeå Municipality Margaret Rönngren.   We met on 24-25 October 2016 for two full days of discussion on the topic of urban freight, with a focus on our transnational theme of urban freight transport and ‘data’.  We were pleased to be joined by external experts in the field.

We covered a lot of ground in our two days together – as can be seen by our ‘meeting by numbers’ diagram:

Freight TAILS transnational network meeting, Umeå 24-25 October 2016, meeting by numbers.

Our busy meeting days were punctuated by a very interesting city tour, conducted by Umeå Municipality.  We saw the problems associated with current freight movements in the city centre area and the potential future problems associated with the densification of the city centre with developments including residential apartments being added to the tops of existing buildings.  Our hosts completed the tour with a visit to Guitars - The Museum in the city centre, where we saw many interesting items including an original Abba guitar!  Freight TAILS: Umeå City Tour 24 October 2016              Freight TAILS: city tour Umeå, 24 October 2016                Freight TAILS city tour, 24 October 2016, The Abba Guitar, Umeå.

Our very special thanks to our kind hosts in Umeå.

Our next Freight TAILS transnational meeting is in Parma, Italy on 1-2 February 2017.  Our focus will be on … Integration.
