Explaining the evident: community building needs actions, not (only) words
Edited on
31 March 2020The successful transfer of the good practice calls for socially innovative municipalities that start with small and concrete steps like conditioning and stimulation. It is a way more complex situation to expect people being active and even proactive towards their own environment. It is always better to invite people not only to talk about their neighbourhood, but to actually DO something. We proved this for partner cities by inviting them to DO something on the main square of Gheorgheni.
In September 2019 Come in! partner cities have met in Gheorgheni, Romania at Progress review meeting during which a Participatory planning workshop was held. Workshop was based on Placemaking methods to inspire participants to think about public spaces in the city as the heart of the community and try to imagine how a certain public space would look like through their own eyes and engagement.
Placemaking methodology shares the same values as Budapest 100 in terms of community engagement. It encourages all stakeholders in the public space planning process, especially citizens who own and use the public space, to get involved in its planning. In this way, community creates places with added value of their own engagement and reflection, and at the same time gains space for comfortable use in everyday life.
Participants of the workshop in Gheorgheni were the members of Come in! network and Gheorgheni locals. Members of the network are going to have to re - use the Budapest 100 good practice in their own cities by organizing a festival, and to encourage them to do it in a participatory way, this workshop offered:
· Getting familiar with the method
· Experience the process (trial)
· Create something tangible in a real situation
· Receive tools one can integrate into the local transfer
· Underlining the importance of participatory planning for the Municipality
Get to know the details of the workshop!
