European Mobility Week Award : Gävle , an URBACT city in the spotlight!

Gävle is a partner city in the URBACT ESIMEC project dealing with "Economic strategies and Innovation in Medium sized cities” but the Swedish city is also the winner of the 2010 European Mobility Week Award. As part of the award, a video has been made for Gävle to promote its achievements as a champion of sustainable urban transport in Europe.

The European Mobility Week Award was designed to reward activities carried out by local authorities in the framework of the European Mobility Week. It is awarded to cities that proved to be fruntrunners in terms of sustainable transport and managed to communicate the campaign’s message to citizens.

The Award aims to promote experiences and successes in organising the Week and to raise awareness for the need of local and individual action in the field of sustainable urban mobility.

The 2010 Winner of the European Mobility Week Award is Gävle in Sweden. Gävle is centrally located by the Baltic sea on the east coast of Sweden. The city has a long tradition of trading, fishing and shipbuilding. Today, Gävle has grown into a modern and vibrant city with 94352 inhabitants. Gävle is a green city with a flourishing cultural life and a wide range of leisure activities.
