This event will mark the launch of one of the selected "fast track" networks under the European Commission's Regions for Economic Change initiative, which aims at providing a platform for exchanges between regional policy makers and represents a further step in involving the region in European policy. The network, entitled PIKE – Promoting Innovation and the Knowledge Economy – seeks to stimulate the successful uptake of information society practices at a regional level, particularly in the area of broadband and internet access, and eGovernment. Bringing together experts from business, the public sector, academic and the European Commission, the conference aims to provide a forum for discussion around the promotion of an environment (physical, administrative, social and economic) in which innovative practice in e-government, broadband and wireless technologies can be transferred throughout Europe. The event will profile award-winning models of good practice and business leaders will provide delegates with an insight into revolutionary innovations for the delivery of public services in the future.
