The sixth European Conference on evaluation of Cohesion Policy entitled "New methods for Cohesion Policy Evaluation: promoting Accountability and Learning" will take place in Warsaw in Poland on 30 November and 1 December 2009.

Do you think evaluation methods are boring or technical?  This conference aims to prove that evaluation methods are crucial to public policy making and particularly important in European cohesion policy.  Debating the findings of good evaluations should be an essential element of democratic accountability, letting the public know how taxpayers' money has been spent. How do we know that our programmes work?  Do we know why? How can we make them work better? This conference will disseminate good practice and debate methodological questions which have been exercising the evaluation and policy community in recent years.

The Polish Minister for Regional Development, Ms Bieńkowska, and the EU Commissioner for Regional Policy, Mr Samecki, will open the conference.  Prof Danuta Hübner, MEP and Chair of the Regional Development Committee of the European Parliament, will close the conference. Other keynote speakers include Professor Murray Saunders, current President of the European Evaluation Society, Fabrizio Barca of the Italian Treasury Ministry, and Andreas Kopp of the World Bank.
