Enna
Enna is a Sicilian city of almost 29 000 inhabitants. It has become an important touristical destination, notably for archaeology amateurs (Roman heritage).
Women’s participation is low in almost all fields of local development: low participation in the labour market, in the enterprise field, in local political life. Thus, the Enna municipality wishes to promote an “integrated” approach to reach greater levels of women’s participation in city life. It has already been involved in two EU project pertaining to gender equality (“Genderwise: the role of man as agent of change in the reconciling work and family life” & “Getting engaged: women in local development”) and wishes to pursue in the direction of women’s greater involvement in local development.
The main challenges and priorities identified for Enna include:
- Improving information, training, guidance, consulting, for women (about job opportunities, financial support for women entrepreneurs, general services)information about access to credit
Social services, family services and services in support of working women.
More involvement of women in knowledge economy and especially in science and ICT.
