Together with EUROCITIES, URBACT is hosting a series of City Labs, which focus on the principles of the Leipzig Charter. The Lab outputs will feed into the 2020 German EU Presidency’s refresh of this key EU urban policy document. City Lab #4 Balanced territorial development will take place in Porto (PT), 29-30 January 2020.
From the neighbourhood level to the metropolitan area, a ‘city’ does not exist in a void. The preponderance of small and medium sized cities in Europe brings with it a clear set of questions around urban development. What role can cities, national and EU level play best in overcoming these challenges? What is the right scale for developing city solutions?
This City Lab will explore the practical ways cities understand and implement the concept of ‘balanced territorial development’. It will take place in Porto before and alongside the Cities Forum, and involve elected officials and officers, as well as participants from the EU and national levels.
