CECODHAS Housing Europe will hold a conference entitled "The key role of Structural Funds for Sustainable Energy in the EU" on Thursday 9 June in Cardiff. This conference takes place within the framework of the 2011 General Assembly Meetings of CECODHAS and of the SF Energy Invest project supported by Intelligent Energy Europe Programme. Presentations of achievements in the field of sustainable energy and housing, current and future EU funding opportunities and reflection over the needs for future EU support will be presented.

This event will be an opportunity to show how concrete and direct the EU support can be in improving living conditions of EU citizens. By taking the example of energy efficiency investments in existing housing supported by the EU Structural Funds, the conference will look at the achievements made over the past few years, not only in Wales (in particular Arbed) and UK but also in other EU countries. Thus participants will be able to get inspired by others’ experience in dealing with EU structural funds programmes for sustainable energy projects, in particular housing related projects.

Wales and UK based participants (potential project promoters) will be able to get relevant information about current and future funding opportunities for sustainable energy investments in particular in existing housing. Representatives of public authorities and financial institutions will indeed be present for questions. Key national and EU decision makers (European Commission and European Parliament) will dialogue with participants on the future policy priorities and budgets of the EU after 2013 and how sustainable energy projects in particular in the housing sector could be further supported.

Due to the cooperation of CECODHAS with the URBACT SUITE project, and the recently formulated 'Recommendations to the cities to EU level for achieving integrated sustainability in housing', including the issue of ERDF funding, the SUITE Lead Expert Heidrun Feigelfeld is invited to participate in the conference and will provide SUITE findings to the discussion.
