Bydgoszcz
The City of Bydgoszcz is located in northern Poland, on the Brda and Vistula rivers. A city with population of 352,313 (2017) and urban agglomeration with more than 470,000 inhabitants is the largest city of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Region and eighth-largest city in Poland. In respect of the area of 176 km² the city is eleventh in Poland. It is a seat of Bydgoszcz County and the co-capital, with Toruń, of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.
It is a center of industry, trade and logistics as well as a road, rail and inland waterway junction. The International Airport is located in the city. The Pomeranian Special Economic Zone operates in the Bydgoszcz Industrial and Technological Park.
Bydgoszcz is also an academic, scientific and cultural center. In 15 higher education institutions, there are approximately 35,000 students. E.g. Bydgoszcz is a seat of Casimir the Great University, University of Technology and Life Sciences and a conservatory, as well as the Medical College of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. It also hosts the Pomeranian Philharmonic concert hall and the Opera Nova house, theater, cinemas, museums, art galleries, orchestras and music bands.
The Bydgoszcz Water Junction (with Bydgoszcz Canal) is the most valuable resource of Bydgoszcz as it is a part of the international waterways, the E-70 linking eastern and western Europe and the E-40 connecting the Baltic Sea with the Black Sea. Forest Park of Culture and Recreation in Bydgoszcz with the area of 830 hectares is one of the largest urban parks in Poland.
Bydgoszcz is an architecturally rich city, with neo-gothic, neo-baroque, neoclassicist, modernist and Art Nouveau styles present, thanks to which it gained a nickname Little Berlin. The granaries on Mill Island and along the riverside are the most recognized symbols in Bydgoszcz.
