Health is important for the wellbeing of individuals and society, but a healthy population is also a prerequisite for economic productivity and prosperity. The Lisbon strategy underlines the importance of health as a key factor for economic growth. However there is a limited awareness of the contributions that a "healthy" urban policy can make to tackle challenges in health.

The main objective of Building healthy Communities is to establish a network of cities in at least 6 different member states participating in a transnational exchange programme for transfer of policy, planning and practice on urban health policies and to provide capacity building for professional development in the field of urban health.

What motivates you to be part of the URBACT adventure ?

Torino has been previously engaged in the URBACT programme and has successfully led the URB HEALTH network that was established under the URBACT I. For our city urban regeneration and quality of life is an important issue and this project represents an interesting tool and a good mechanism for exploring in depth the topic of quality of life and citizens

Who would you like to benefit from the work achieved in your project?

The topic of health and quality of life promotion engages all local bodies.
