Breakfast with the media and final ULG meeting in Heraklion by Manolis Petrakis, Heraklion Municipality
Edited on
22 July 2022The URBACT Local Group of the Municipality of Heraklion for the area of Agia Triada met for the last time on 28 June 2022. In the meeting, the overall participation of the Municipality of Heraklion in the "KAIRÓS Network" was evaluated and the ULG members discussed the results of the city's mission to the Spanish city of Mula in April. Further, final comments were made to the Integrated Action Plan for the area of Agia Triada and the preparation of the "Small Scale Action".
After the ULG meeting, the second information event (media breakfast) was held by the Municipality services, to present the Integrated Action Plan for the urban revitalization of the Agia Triada area to the local media. The plan had been prepared by external experts of the Municipality of Heraklion, under the guidance of the Lead Expert of the Network Miguel Rivas.
The dialogue at local level and cooperation between residents, municipal services, experts, and decision makers produced significant results and provided the Municipality of Heraklion with an integrated plan, which can revitalise the historic neighbourhood of Agia Triada, provided that adequate funding can be secured and that all stakeholders including residents, as well as public and private entities will collaborate in the process.
The IAP, which is also accompanied by appropriate topographical maps depicting the existing situation and some of the proposed interventions, has received wide acceptance among the local population. However, the long period of inactivity and the various crises of the last decade also raised some doubts as to the viability of the plans among some local residents.
Nevertheless, the Authority of the city is determined to seize the opportunity and not to lose any more time, hoping that all citizens will be actively involved in the process. The City is convinced that the legacy of the KAIRÓS project will be used for a comprehensive and sustainable regeneration of the Agia Triada area guided by its cultural heritage!
