B.1. Understanding of integrated and sustainable urban development: 
Currently Dr Malcolm Borg is developing furthering his studies in urban planning and environmental management studies through a Masters in International Urban and Environmental Management at RMIT University and Professional Development as a recognized Planning Institute Australia Certified Planner. In both situations Urban Sustainability are key topics. He is also publishing papers and developing projects for sustainable planning and development with UN Global Cities Compact as a Global Advisor and developing and testing further tools such as Circles of Sustainability and City Scan.
B.2. Understanding of exchange and learning processes at transnational level: 
Previously Dr Malcolm Borg has been involved in developing and managing URBACT projects at a City level especially through URBACT REPAIR, URBACT HERO and URBACT SURCH. For these he has developed sustainable Action Plans together with European partners and also policy development. He has been involved in other EU Programmes with exchange in research based projects on regeneration and planning namely through INTERREG III and IV (PAGUS), (AT FORT) and (HYBRID PARKS). He is also currently involved in UNESCO (HUL) specifically on the development of Implementation Plans.
B.3. Proficiency in English: 
English is the National language with Maltese and all communication written and verbal is done in English. All primary, secondary and tertiary education has been completed with the use of the English language and currently a Masters in Planning and Professional Development Course in Planning is also being completed through English at RMIT University and Planning Institute Australia. English has also been the medium for the PhD Submission at Leeds University UK.

Summary Thematic expertise: 
With reference to Integrated Urban Renewal Expertise the following are the main areas of expertise; (1)Tools for consultation and community and public engagement: Dr Malcolm Borg has been developing methods of public engagement and consultation through democratisation in design and planning through greater community involvement. (2)Integrated planning tools through mobility: Malcolm Borg has been fine tuning and tweaking Transit Oriented Development applications especially for historic towns (but not solely) to enhance regeneration through transit and facilitating mobility and accessibility. (3)Sustainable Conservation: Another area of study and development through projects has been the sustainable conservation approach which is based on the adaptive re-use of heritage assets and the possibility of creating spin-off regeneration and renewal projects; (4)Tools for measuring sustainable regeneration: Another area of specialisation based also on environmental economics and various innovative methods is measuring regeneration through a combination of systems including; contingent valuation, mapping through GIS and valorisation and evaluation methods.

Expertise support to local authorities and other stakeholders in designing & delivering integrated and participatory policies

E.1. Knowledge on participatory methods and tools for co-production and implementation of local polices : 
With reference to Integrated Urban Renewal Expertise the public engagement is one of the main areas of expertise. Tools for consultation and community and public engagement are significantly important for planners. Dr Malcolm Borg has been developing methods of public engagement and consultation through democratisation in design and planning through greater community involvement. These may be combined with social media for more immediate consultation and community empowerment through democratisation in design.
E.2. Knowledge on integrated approach for the design, delivering, monitoring and evaluation of urban strategies/policies: 
Dr Malcolm Borg has advocated integrated planning and holistic approach policy in the development of urban regeneration projects for the past ten years. Currently he is engaged in further study and research in the application of implementation of actions through a Historic Landscape based approach. In the past years strategies and policies have also been led through the adoption of Circles of Sustainability cyclic processes which support further monitoring and review of policies and strategies.
E.3. Awareness of the main policy and funding schemes for sustainable urban development at EU and national level: 
The updating on sustainable development at an EU, local and International level is three pronged; (1)Research and Innovation; through the continuous development of projects for local, regional and EU partners further research has made it possible to maintain abreast with developments in the field. This is enhanced through an International advisory role which gives further exposure internationally. (2)Professional development in Sustainable Development and Planning; The maintaining of professional engagement and development through further training maintained and developed further the skills for research and development. Currently engaged in a Masters Degree in International Planning and Environmental Management and specifically advanced Certificates for Planners through specialised Institutes. (3)The social media and expert networks; Dr Malcolm Borg is involved and assists various networks in sustainable development and conservation namely: European Walled Towns (EWT), UN Global Cities Compact Programme (UNGCCP).
