Facing the ongoing economic restructuration the City of Bärnbach is challenged by
a) Restructuring Brownfield’s – project development for future regional industrial, manufacturing and service businesses as well as for facilities for education and recreation
b) Development of a kind of “Regional Funds” (Venture Capital Funds) to support/finance the projects

The main targets are oriented on sustainable city development by
• Creation of a modernised compact city
• Economic transformation and the reuse of Brownfield’s
• Tourist Development
• Creation of a climate neutral city
• Implementation of a platform for land management on the regional level

The Outputs

• Local level
Compact City: Reuse concepts on the pilot sites; test application and revised land intervention strategy and institutional structures for the district of Voitsberg including a future industrial service strategy.
Climate neutral city: Concept for integration housing regeneration in the land cycle concept and institutional model; pilot project of biomass production in co-operation with European partners.
Intermunicipial management structure: Tests and development of an organization models (Agentur) including new financial models (e.g. based on JESSICA); development of a financial instrument for the region (venture capital).

- Natural and urban landscape qualification by Brownfield regeneration: Positions on biomass production, new forest developments; integrated green Management concepts on pilot sites/city areas.
- Economic diversification/support to housing and commercial activities in cities by land offers on Brownfield’s: Profiling specific sites for reuse.
