Avrig
Avrig is one of the most important cities from Sibiu County, situated in the center of the country,the southern part of Transylvania, at the buttom of the Fagaras mountains
The city was one known as an important city for the munitions and glass production.
Nowadays the city is trying to pursue a different direction for its development, by creating an industry based on renewable energies.
The Municipality of Avrig is member of the Convenant of Mayors in order to show its great interest in the european policy regarding both renewable energy production and energy efficiency.
Other transnational programs Avrig is involved in are : INTERREG IV C ; IEE- Intelligent Energy Europe ; and URBACT II - REPAIR Project.
The vision for Avrig is to become one of Romania's leading centres for renewable energy by 2020 and aims to become energy independent by 2030. This will be done by creating, in the next year an Energy Center in wich will be placed different kinds of power stations using different tipes of renewable energy sources.
This will result in new jobs, lower utility bills and a city that is known as a good place to invest, work, live and visit.
