Based on the URBACT methodology, the ANRU (French National Agency for Urban Renewal) and the AFD (French Development Agency) have launched ASToN, a network of 11 cities across Africa using digital tools to overcome local and global challenges.

With over 30 million citizens between them, the cities are responding to questions like: How can a transition to digital technology improve my city for citizens and what should I be doing about it? How might we collaborate and learn together with other cities to make that transition faster and more sustainable? How can we make sure no one is left behind in the process? Which digital experiments can I run that can have a positive impact on my city and citizens at scale?

Through a two and a half year programme of peer exchange and learning, engaging local stakeholders and experimentation, ASToN cities are accelerating progress towards becoming sustainable and inclusive places to live and work. From now to mid-2022, the ASToN cities will:

  • Learn from one another through peer exchange and learning processes
  • Set up and manage a Local Action Group with all the relevant stakeholders on the ground
  • Draft a Local Action Plan
  • Experiment some of the actions
  • Reinforce their capacities in terms of designing and piloting digital transformation processes
  • Communicate!

In your role as Cities Project Officer, you will work within the ASToN team, based in Paris, to accompany the cities though their ASToN journey. You will be able to switch easily between French and English (the main languages of the project), liaising with cities on local activities and local group progress, providing support and assistance on the challenges they might overcome. You will equally be involved in delivering our capacity building strategy, linking it with the needs on the ground and share relevant good practices within and beyond the network.

Full-time job starting ideally 1 September 2020, fixed-term contract of 18 months.
