Anderlecht

Anderlecht is a Belgian city, situated in the province of Brussels-capital. The city extends over 17.7 km² and account 99 000 inhabitants. The density of population is 5 501.7 inhabitants by km² on the city. Surrounded by Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Saint Gilles and Berchem-Sainte-Agathe, Anderlecht is situated in 4 km in the Southwest of Brussels. In the historic centre which knew how to keep its medieval heritage, the presence of the house of the famous humanist, who lived in 1521, or still that of - Beguinage convent-, together on houses there of the 16th century, pleasantly make relive tha past.

By its urbanevolution, the territory of Anderlecht seems very contrasted. Indeed, one can notice there a rural zone, a zone exclusively devoted to he sports activities and leisures, industrial parks, cities peripheral gardens workers, modern cities, residential zones more cossues, parks numbers, a historical centre and a denser urban area with a high level of poverty.

The municipality is structured by the historical centre, the district of Cureghem, the rural zone of Neerpede and by the canal. It is truly cut into two by the ring with the rural zone in the west and the urban zone in the east.

The type of protection rules depend of the heritage. It's manage by the regional state and can be subsidy until 80%.

The characteristices of the population are closely related to the industrial development of the agglomeration and the municipality :

- a population mainly worker and employee

- a significant part of the population resulting from the large waves from immigration for economic, political, family regrouping reasons

- socio-professional composition with strong tendency "wormen and employed", of weak qualification, a level of studies not very high, tax income in low of the area.

- the population of foreign nationality is according to the enquiry in 2004, is of 25% including 11% exit of the European Community, 14% exit of the Maghreb and of Africa exchange.

The district of Curreghem, the area of the project, counts some 20.000 inhabitants, of which two thirds don't have Belgian nationality.

The population of Curreghem is moreover very young : 42% of the inhabitants have less than 25 years and 9% only exceed the 65 years. They are mainly Belgians aotochtones. Curreghem also counts among the districts of Brussels poorest and most disadvantage, with an average income very low, a low level of educational formation and important rate of unemployment (28%). Not far from 70% of the residences of the zone make watch of weak comfort. The parks public and the green area are rare.

There is a lack of public infrastructures as Library, Theaters, Culturals equipment, day nursery.
