Amadora celebrated the International Migration Day

02 October 2018On the 18th of December in occasion of the International Migration day, the Municipality of Amadora Organized an event named “Amadora Paladares do Mundo” (Amadora World’s Flavors)
Through an outdoor cooking demonstration, in show cooking mode, the citizens had the opportunity to prepare, with the guidance of Chef Fábio Bernardino, and to taste traditional delicacies from various countries of origin of those living in Amadora.
The city of Amadora hosts more than 40 nationalities and about 11% of the resident population has foreign nationality. Give visibility and enhance the gastronomic diversity it is a good way to counter stereotypes, rumors and negative attitudes toward immigrants and the city itself.
Amadora, Paladares do Mundo is also the title of a book that brings together "experiences ... and flavors", revealing traditional food habits and recipes from the 10 countries with the largest number of inhabitants in the municipality. The book will soon be available in paper and electronic support.
The initiative is part of the Campaign Do not Feed Rumor! , implemented in the municipality since 2014 and was funded by the Council of Europe – Intercultural Cities Programme.
