All together towards net zero energy territories, a human adventure

What does energy transition mean on a city scale? By essence, it is a strategic vision that requires practical implementation through an integrated action plan.

The URBACT programme, which fosters cooperation between cities, presented an opportunity for the urban community of Clermont Auvergne Métropole (France). At the heart of this kind of European project lies the idea of opening up and learning from others, exploring new methods, becoming aware of shortcomings and strengths, and joining forces to work and reflect; the Urb-En Pact project is no exception! The plan? To become a net zero energy territory by 2050 by finding ways to balance local energy production and reduced consumption. This is an equation with many variables: what are the new sources of energy? How do we store and distribute the energy produced? How do we raise awareness and encourage the public, companies, and public services to reduce their energy consumption?
