Aditi Khodke is an urban sustainability consultant and researcher with over 10 years of professional experience. After receiving her architecture license in 2012, she has worked on several built environment projects integrating climate change adaptation and mitigation for different clients like the UN agencies, local governments, urban planning consultancies, and international think tanks.
She is an Indian national based in the UK and has lived in Japan and Switzerland. She supervised the delivery of construction projects for residential, commercial, and institutional buildings in India, Saudi Arabia, Angola, Nigeria, and Qatar.
More recently, as a researcher and project manager, she delivered projects in Brazil, India, Malaysia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Thailand on energy efficiency, nature-based solutions (NbS) for flood mitigation, green finance, solid waste management, and 1.5C Lifestyles.
She has authored and contributed to over 25 publications like journal articles, technical reports, policy briefs, blogs, newsletters, and conference papers. She also served as a reviewer for IPCC Special Report on Climate Change and Land.
Aditi holds two Masters of Science degrees in Sustainable Urban Development and Sustainability, majoring in Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation from the University of Oxford and the UN University. She is licensed with India’s Council of Architecture. Since 2021, she has been pursuing a part-time Ph.D. at the University of Oxford.
B.2. Understanding of exchange and learning processes at transnational level:
Aditi has been involved in the exchange and learning activities at the transnational level since 2017 on topics related to sustainable urban development, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and sustainable consumption.
Since 2019, she delivers a training module on climate resilience and action for newly elected city mayors as part of the Asia Pacific Mayors Academy for Sustainable Urban Development.

Aditi has native-level English language skills; she holds two Master of Science degrees and a Bachelor of Architecture, all of which were taught with English as the primary language.

Such projects include developing frameworks for SMEs on energy efficiency, introducing multi-scalar approaches to nature-based solutions, assessing the resilience of the built environment regulations, piloting sustainable lifestyles, and household experiments on carbon footprint reduction.

I am well-versed with tools like bringing people together to seek their opinions and extract knowledge to solve local policy problems in a collaborative and creative environment. This knowledge is used to develop frameworks and project outlines that can be tested on the ground, which can further enhance the frameworks to address local challenges for sustainability.
I also have familiarity with developing questionnaire surveys and interview outlines.
E.2. Knowledge on integrated approach for the design, delivering, monitoring and evaluation of urban strategies/policies:
I have limited familiarity with developing monitoring tools. My primary expertise is developing urban sustainability experiments, assessing policy problems, and providing policy recommendations.
E.3. Awareness of the main policy and funding schemes for sustainable urban development at EU and national level:
I have expertise in localizing components of the New Urban Agenda, SDG 11, 12, and 17. I served as an expert reviewer for IPCC Special Report on Climate Change and Land.
I have contributed to funding proposals for UNEP's 10YFP, Bellmont Forum, and proposals to get funds from the Ministry of Environment in Japan.
E.4. Ability to understand specific local situations and adapt tools and content to different local realities:
I worked as a project manager in localizing the concept of 1.5C Lifestyles in six cities by conducting household experiments, citizen workshops, and organizing games. My role involved finding local partners, localizing the project methodology, and overseeing the project delivery.
Most recently I am working with Solingen city from the URBACT network and Sipalay City in the Philippines to localize sustainable lifestyles.
