Definitions
GENDER Gender does not refer to biological sex (e.g. male, female, intersex), but to the socialisation as woman, man or other genders. Gender often impacts our behaviour and thus the way we move around, interact and exist in the city. It is associated with the social expectations established around what it means to be considered a woman, man, non-binary, trans, masculine, or feminine.
NON-BINARY/ TRANS*
Are gender categories and describe individuals whose gender and/or sex is different from the sex and/or gender they were assigned at birth based on their biological characteristics.
GENDER MAINSTREAMING Mainstreaming a gender perspective is the process of assessing the implications of any planned actions on people with different genders, including legislation, policies or programmes, in any area and at all levels. It is a strategy for explicitly making the concerns and experiences of people of all genders an integral part of design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation in all political, economic and societal spheres, so that all residents benefit equally, and inequality is not perpetuated.
GENDER PAY GAP
Is a measure of the difference between men and women s average earnings across organisations of the labour market. It is expressed as a percentage of men s earnings.
